Retirement and Pension
Death-cum-Retirement Benefits of the State Govt. employees are appended in short on the implementation of the recommendations of 6th State Pay Commission.
- Pension Rules : West Bengal Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefit) Rules, 1971 since amended time to time.

- Minimum 10 (Ten) years of qualifying service is necessary for eligibility of pension.
- Maximum amount of monthly pension has been raised to Rs. 1,00,500/- only p.m. with effect from 01.01.2020 from Rs. 35,000/- in terms of G.O. No. 536-F (Pen) dated 01.10.2019.
- Minimum monthly pension/family pension has been raised to Rs. 8,500/- p.m. from Rs. 3,300/- w.e.f. 01.01.2020.
- Calculation of pension : 50% of last pay drawn (Basic Pay) is admissible as pension subject to completion of 20 years qualifying service. Pension shall be reduced pro-rata if qualifying service falls short of 20 years.
- Family Pension :
- Normal rate – 30% of last pay draw till death or remarriage.
- Enhanced rate – Double the normal rate but not exceeding maximum pension of the pensioner in case of death after retirement subject to minimum of Rs. 8,500/- from the date following the date of death of the pensioner for period of 7 years or 67 years of age, had been alive, whichever is earlier.
In case of death in harness, 50% of last pay (Basic Pay) subject to minimum of Rs. 8,500/- from the date following the date of death of the employee for period of 7 years subject to completion of 7 years qualifying service.
- Retiring Gratuity :
(Basic Pay + Dearness Allowances) X number of completed years of qualifying service (maximum 33 years)/2 subject to maximum of 12 lakhs. - Death Gratuity :
(Basic Pay + Dearness Allowances) X number of completed years of qualifying service (maximum 33 years) as per slab appended below subject to maximum of 12 lakhs.Length of Qualifying Service Rate of Death Gratuity (a) Less than 1 (one) year 2 times of last drawn monthly emoluments (b) 1 (one) year or more but less than 5(five) years 6 times of last drawn monthly emoluments (c) 5 (five) years or more but less than 11 (eleven) years 12 times of last drawn monthly emoluments (d) 11 (eleven) years or more but less than 20 (twenty) years 20 times of last drawn monthly emoluments (e) 20 (twenty) years or more Half of the last drawn monthly emoluments for every completed six monthly period of qualifying service subject to a maximum of 33 times of last drawn monthly emoluments. - Additional pension/family pension :
Additional quantum of pension/family pension has been allowed to old pensioner/family pensioner w.e.f. 01.01.2020 in the following manner :Age of Pensioners Additional Quantum of Pension (a) From 80 years to less than 85 years 20 % of the basic pension. (b) From 85 years to less than 90 years 30 % of the basic pension. (c) From 90 years to less than 95 years 40 % of the basic pension. (d) From 95 years to less than 100 years 50 % of the basic pension. (e) 100 years or more 100 % of the basic pension.
