KOLKATA GOALZ

Kolkata GOALZ is an inspirational project using football as a tool to encourage young people from across Kolkata to aim for a more positive future and to engage young people from some of the most challenging and difficult neighbourhood in Kolkata. The project was launched in the month of July’ 2011 at Park Circus Ground. Kolkata Police has identified 6 “hot spots” where the socio-economic condition is comparatively bad and the young people in that area had a history of conflict with the police.

From these 6 “hot spots” around 300 children in the age of 12 to 18 years will be selected by the Officer-in-Charge of the Police Station from the areas under their jurisdiction for participation in Kolkata Goalz. During the selection Kolkata Police will focus on “hard to engage young people” for participation in the programme.

Present Status

Only one centre is running at Park Circus, Maidan on our own strength.

Future Plan

To start 05 more centres of GOALZ as early as possible in much more methodical manner.

Monitoring of total project by Kolkata Police itself only without involving the renowned clubs of the city.

The vision of Kolkata Goalz is “to create safer, stronger and more respectful

Communities through the development of young people’s potential” through sport.

The broad objectives of Kolkata Goalz are below;

To engage young people aged 12-18 years in a range of constructive activities.
To break down barriers between the police and young people.
To reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in targeted neighbourhoods.
To increase the playing, coaching and officiating opportunities for participants.
To create routes into education, training and employment.
To encourage volunteering within projects and throughout the target neighbourhoods.
To increase young people’s interest in and connections with the professional game.
